DR. THOMAS B. SWARTZ DIES
Dr. Thomas Benton Swartz of the "house of misfortune" is dead. He was stricken with paralysis on Friday, when calling on a patient, that robbed him of speech. When he entered the patient's room a nurse at once realized that the condition of the doctor was more desperate than the patient's, for she noticed that Dr. Swartz could not speak. She placed him in a chair and then sent for an ambulance. He was partially conscious most of the time. He died on Tuesday night.

His greatest misfortune before taking the great adventure was the loss of his two daughters, Marjory and Irene, in the Iroquois fire. A sister-in-law, Miss Irene Ford, who was principal of the Myra Bradwell school, was among the missing in that great tragedy. The wife never recovered from the shock, and since that time he was a broken man, it was said.

Two years ago he went to Alaska. And along with the practice of surgery he gave lectures with the assistance of lantern slides. He was 58 years old. John E. Swartz of 3746 Lake Park avenue, Benjamin Swartz of Pennsylvania, and Henry Swartz of Indiana are his three brothers, and Mrs. Mary Ort of Michigan is a sister. Funeral services will be conducted at Boydston's chapel today at 2 p.m. Burial at Oakwoods.
