Eliza Hamilton (Pettit) Statham was the daughter of John Upfold and Julia (Brenton) Pettit. She entered Syracuse University with the Class of 1890 but left college at the end of her junior year. She was assistant principal of Wabash High School for two years. Eliza was the 1st wife of Rev. George K. Statham. They were married October 28, 1891. Rev. Staham was a minister in the Genesee Conference and Troy Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church/The Methodist Church.
