The son of Jacob & Priscilla (Tyson) Seitz, in 1860 he lived with and/or worked for blacksmith Levi Hise in Chanceford Township, York County, Pennsylvania.

A Civil War veteran, he was drafted in York County October 24, 1862, mustered into federal service at York November 7 as a private with Co. E, 166th Pennsylvania Infantry (aka "Drafted Militia"), and honorably discharged with his company July 28, 1863.

He married Catherine Grim and fathered Samuel (b. @1869), Sarah Ann (b. 06/16/71 - married a Downs), Idella (b. 04/21/75 - married Jacob Clayton Gable), Henry G. "Harry" (b. 10/21/77), Irene E. (b. 10/25/79 - married Harry Barnhart), James Allen (b. 05/08/82), and Michael Ervin (b. 02/02/87). Cause of his death is listed as "chronic valvular heart disease."
