Her son, Joe, once told the story of how a couple of his brothers were sitting around the table talking. Massa came in and added something to the conversation and one of the brothers said, Ma, you know that ain't true. She believed him to be calling her a liar and knocked him clear off his chair, with him falling down the steps and out the front door. As he laid in the yard unconscious, she thought she had killed him!
