David A Jackson killed his wife Pearl R. Everman Jackson.
The following is from the Oakland Tribune, July 17, 1912:
"Kills His Wife: Selma was the scene yesterday of one of the bloodiest and most gruesome murders and attempted suicides in the history of Fresno county, when David Jackson, a farm hand, cut his young wife's throat from ear to ear, then shot himself in the breast and lay down beside his wife to die.
The shot was not effective and an hour and a half later, when suspecting neighbors came to investigate the reason for the first shot, Jackson placed the revolver under his right ear and fired again. The second shot is expected to prove fatal. Jealousy is said to be the cause of the tragedy."
A second article was printed on July 22; John Jackson evidently made a really quick trip to California:
"Father Pleads With Boy to Pay Penalty"
That his son David Jackson must pay the penalty by law for the brutal murder of his young wife at Selma, Wednesday, was the statement made yesterday by John A. Jackson, banker of Eldorado, MO., upon his arrival in Fresno. Jackson declared that he would urge his son top lead guilty to the murder charge and to take his sentence like a true Missourian. The father is running on the Democratic ticket in his county for representative and quit in the midst of the race to come to California and be at his son's side.
The meeting between the gray-haired father and the son at the county hospital last evening was pathetic. Jackson said that his trip here is for humanity's sake, that he knows his son will get justice, but he wanted to be with the boy to please his aged wife, who could not make the trip. On the morning of the day set for their separation young Jackson cut his wife's throat at Selma and then shot himself twice."
Notice the articles never mention Pearl's name and nothing is mentioned about the boy. I also found record of the boys birth, 1 Jan 1909, in Fresno County, and his name was Ralleigh W. Jackson.
