OBITUARY
COUNTY RESIDENT 65 YEARS PASSES ON
RITES FOR MRS. MAY S. BEARD HELD AT METHODIST CHURCH LAST FRIDAY
Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the house and at 2:30 at the Methodist church for Mrs. May S. Beard, whose death occurred Wednesday morning of last week. Rev. A. W. Brown of Faribault, assisted by Revs. L. H. Klaus of Byron and Frank C. Greene, conducted the services. Mmes. Lee Rohrer and Harold Otterness sang, accompanied by Mrs. L. H. Klaus. Interment in charge of Mortician D. N. Dibble was in Evergreen cemetery at Mantorville in the family lot, the bearers were Messrs. D. E. White, G. W. Nottage, Harry Fiegel, A. G. Todd, L. M. Patterson and Chet Erickson. May S. Beard was born Sept. 26, 1866, at Swanton, Vt., the daughter of Charles J. and Amelia Niles Alexander. At the age of six years she was brought by her parents to Minnesota, where they settled on a farm northeast of Kasson.
Dec. 6, 1882, she was married to George H. Beard, who died June 4, 1928. To this union four children were born: Lee Alexander and Lora Amelia, now Mrs. F. M. Williams of Dyron, and twin daughters, who died in infancy. Mr. and Mrs. Beard began housekeeping on the farm which she owned at the time of her death. In September, 1911, they retire from the farm and bought a home in Kasson, where they Iived until 14 years ago, when they took up their residence with Mrs. Edith Button, Mrs. Beard's sister. For the last nine years the sisters have made their home together. Mrs. Beard was an active member of the M. E. church and when younger was a member of Royal Neighhor, Rebekah and Yeoman lodges. After several years of failing health she was stricken with an acute heart attack and passed away at 3 :30 a.m, May, 19, 1937, at the age of 70 years.
Surviving her are her son, Lee A. Beard of Kasson; daughter, Mrs. F. M. 'Williams of Dyron; a sister, Mrs. Edith G Button of Kasson; two brothers, Charles L. Alexander of Fergus Falls and Fred A. Alexander of Owatonna; six grandchildren, EveIyn and Robert Williams, Mrs. Edith May Grimstad and Ethel and Leah Beard, also one great grandson, Harold Grimstad.
Relatives and friends from a distance here to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Williams of Byron, Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Alexander of Fergus Falls, Charles Alexander, Jr., of Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Alexander of Owatonna, Miss Evelyn Williams of Herman, Robert Williams and Mr. Harold Grimstad of Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Niles or Albert Lea, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Beard and son of Minneapolis, Mrs. Neal Williams of Dodge Center, Dr. and Mrs. R. J. Rice, Mrs. George Strifert, Mrs. B. C. Gillis, Mrs. Lynn Duncanson and Mr. and Mrs. George Eayrs of Rochester, Mr. and Mrs. Sumner Kidder, Mr. Eugene Gardinier and Mrs. C. VanKirk of Claremont, and many friends from Byron and other nearby villages.

May's sister, Edith G. Alexander Button (Memorial# 61594115) married Lewis Button (Memorial# 61560194) in Mantorville, Dodge Co., MN on Nov 22, 1883.
