William E. Squires 1938 - 2009 SHAFTSBURY William Everett Squires, 70, a resident of Buck Hill Road in Shaftsbury, died peacefully Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 30, at his home surrounded by his loving family. William was born in Wallingford, Vt., on Dec. 30, 1938, son of Paul and Florence Andrew Squires. He attended school in Arlington, Vt., graduated from Arlington Memorial High School in 1956 then went to serve his country as a member of the Army in Germany during the Viet Nam era. William was a cabinet maker by trade. In his earlier years he worked for John Moore Construction and then went to work for R.K. Miles in Arlington as a cabinet maker for many years, retiring in 1995. William loved playing baseball and played well into his 40's. He also enjoyed playing cards, fishing, being around his home and spending time with his family, especially his sons. He loved playing cribbage with his buddy Burke, especially enjoyed going to his grandfather's camp at the Kelley Stand in Arlington and was a member of the American Legion Post 13 Bennington, Vt. William leaves his wife the former Helen Hall of Shaftsbury, to whom he married on Oct. 7, 1961, at the East Arlington Federated Church, his sons, USMC Sergeant Major William (Floyd) Squires, and his wife, Lise, of Hubert, N.C., James Squires of Shaftsbury and Army Sergeant Andrew Squires of Shaftsbury, his brother Richard Squires, and his wife, Ann, of Jericho, Vt., his sister Paula Ehrenberg, and her husband, John, of Taylor, Mich., four grandchildren, William Squires of Hilton Head, S.C., Benjamin Squires of Hubert, N.C., Travis Squires of Shaftsbury, Gwendolyn Squires of Hubert, N.C., and Nicole Squires of Montvale, N.J., three step grandchildren, Ricky, Tiffany and Justin Martin, two nieces Jessica and Rebecca Ehrenberg and several cousins. FUNERAL NOTICE: Services for William will be held Monday Oct. 5, 2009, at 11 a.m. at HANSON-WALBRIDGE FUNERAL HOME 213 West Main Street Bennington, VT. Pastor John Goyette of the Green Mountain Christian Center will conduct the service. Interment with military honors will follow in the family lot in Center Shaftsbury Cemetery. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be held Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, from 4 to 6 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. If friends desire memorial gifts in William's memory may be made to Hospice of Bennington County, c/o Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home P.O. Box 957 Bennington, Vermont 05201. The family has entrusted arrangements to the care of Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home Bennington, Vermont.
