After getting married, going to Marshall for their honeymoon, and returning the next day for Dolly's father's funeral, they proceeded to New Orleans, Louisiana where Sal worked for the City Health Department until being drawn into the service during WWII. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946, spending part of their tour in San Diego, California. He was a rancher in Big Wells, Texas, but later moved to Fort Worth, Texas in 1980.
