Lela Abbott of Parachute died on Oct. 15, 2003 in Rifle. She was 87.

Mrs. Abbott was born on Oct. 29, 1915, in Delta, to William and Pearl Herd. She spent her childhood in Delta, graduating from Delta High School in 1933. She attended business school.

She married LeRoy J. Abbott on June 3, 1936, in Delta. He died on March 13, 1994.

Mrs. Abbott lived in Delta in 1955 and moved back to Worland, Wyo., in 1969. After her husband retired they lived in Arizona and California. She moved to Montrose and later to Mesa Vista in Parachute.

She enjoyed gardening, bridge, golf, traveling and her family.

Mrs. Abbott is survived by two sons and their wives, LeRoy J. and Marlene Abbott Jr. of Rock Springs, Wyo., and William C. and Charla Abbott of Sun City, Calif.; a daughter and her husband, Lana and Bob Hammons of Tracy, Calif.; six grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 12 stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers; three sisters; and her husband, LeRoy Abbott.

A memorial service was held on Oct. 17, in Parachute. Burial will be at a later date in Tracy, Calif.
