Throughout his life, Dr. Battaglia was devoted to his family and was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church, St. Francis Xavier Church on Bay Street and later St. Andrew's Church on Portland Avenue in Rochester, NY.
After enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1942, he served as a U.S. Army Captain in both the European and Pacific Theaters of War during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Dr. Battaglia practiced dentistry in Rochester, NY from 1935 until 1996 and was a lifetime member of the Monroe County Dental Society. After closing his dental practice in 1996, he donated his home and office on Portland Avenue to Catholic Charities; donated all his dental equipment to third world countries; and funded a perpetual scholarship fund for students at his alma mater, the University of Buffalo Dental School, Buffalo, NY.
