Jack D. EVENER, 65, Rochester, died at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Arrangements are pending at the Foster & Good Funeral Home, Rochester.

Jack D. EVENER, 65, Rochester, died at 5 p.m. at Memorial Hospital, South Bend.
Born in St. Louis, Mo. to Robert and Grace WHITLATCH EVENER, he had lived in Rochester for the last ten years having come from Chesterton. He married Caroline STINSON on July 27, 1951 in Valparaiso; she survives.
He worked for General Telephone Company, Valparaiso office, for 33 years, retirng in 1987. During the Korean War he served in the 25th Division, 25th Reconnaissance Company, earning a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, Portage Chapter #35.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Sheryl EVENER, Rochester, and Jacalyn EVENER, Michigan City; two sons, Robert and wife Marie EVENER, Chesterton, and John and wife Teresa EVENER, Columbus, eight grandchildren and one great-grandson. Also survivng are his mother, Mrs. Grace EVENER, Owosso, Mich.; two sisters, Betty HIJA, Port Huron, Mich., and Delores HUDECK, Owosso, Mich.; and a brother, William VANDYKE, Owosso, Mich.
Preceding him in death were his father and two brothers, Robert YOUNG and Darell EVENER.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Foster & Good Funeral Home, Rochester, with the Rev. Larry PYEATT officiating, and burial will be at the Rochester I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m. until services at the funeral home. The American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars will compose a graveside color guard.
