HOUSTON - Marlin Doyle Blanton, age 74, died Tuesday, May 16, 1995 at Trace Regional Hospital in Houston. Funeral services were held Thursday, May 18 at Houston Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Smith,the Rev. Al Gaspard,and the Rev. Buddy Stallings officiating. Houston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He was born in Algoma on April 16,1921 to the late Denver Mitchell Blanton and the late Savannah Smith Blanton. As a member of the United States Air Force, he proudly served his country during World War II and also the Korean Conflict. He was an architect, Senior Real Estate Appraiser and real estate broker. He was a former member of the board of aldermenof Houston and member of the First Baptist Church. An avid ham radio operator and member of the Tupelo Amateur Radio Club, he formerly worked with the Mississippi Disaster Relief Team in communications.

Survivors include his wife,Lillian Etheleen Johnson Blanton of Houston,who married in 1941; two daughters, Marlene Blanton Brown of Houston and Suzanne Blanton Hamric of Florence, SC; two sisters, Alva Merle Blanton of Houston and Barbara Carnes of Williamsburg,KY; one brother Bennett Blanton of Houston; three granddaughters, Jennifer Gray of Houston, Deborah Croft of Huntington,TN and Anna Kathryn Hamric of Florence,SC and two great grandchildren, Barrett Gray and Chelsea Gray, both of Houston.

He was preceded in death by his brother,Garland Blanton and his grandsons, Charles Leighton Harmic,III and Clayton Walker Hamric.

Pallbearers were Kenneth Moore, Wallace Norman, Sr., Gary Murphree, ROy Johnson, Robert Lamar Goza and Fred Thompson.

Memorials may be made to Le Bonheur's Children's Medical Center, One Children's Plaza, Memphis, Tennessee 38103-9984 or to the Houston Baptist Church Building Fund.
