James Ray Sharps, 85, of Route 4, Pruntytown Community, Grafton, died Friday, May 9, at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center, Clarksburg.He was born Jan. 26, 1912, in Preston County, son of the late Henry S. and Nora Mae Larew Sharps.He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during WWII, and was a lifetime member of the VFW Memorial City Post 3081 of Grafton. He was a retired coal miner.He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Opal Pierce Sharps, six stepdaughters, and two stepsons; five brothers, Archie Earl Sharps and Leo Blaine Sharps, both of Bridgeport, John Henry Sharps, of Keyser, Raymond Harding Sharps, Newburg, and Carl Eugene Sharps, of OH; and four sisters, Pearl Genevieve Mouser, Ada Opal Annon and Edith Ann King, all of Newburg, and Naomi Lee Smeltzer, of OH. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lillie Belle Hibbs Sharps; his second wife, Lula Turnley Crow Sharps; three brothers and two sisters.Burial will be in the Gladesville Cemetery with Rev. Lawson Whipkey officiating. Full military services will be conducted by VFW Memorial Post 308, American Legion Taylor County Post 12 and the DAV Chapter 24, and their auxiliaries."The Preston County Journal" May 14, 1997
