Harley served in the U.S. Navy from 1946-1948, U.S. Marines from 1950-1954 and the Merchant Marines in 1968. Harley saw ground combat in the Republic of Korea from September 1, 1951 to June 1, 1952 and July 11, 1953 to July 27, 1953.
Harley married Gloria Blurton on December 17, 1956 in Lewiston, Idaho. After the service, he went to work at the Oakville Shake Company for many years and worked over twenty years as a Shake Sawyer for L.G. Moore Shake Company in Montesano until his retirement in 1987. He is a Life Member of VFW Post 5564
