"DEATH OF JOHN F. HOUSE
John F. House died Tuesday, July 14, 1914, at his home nine miles northeast of Carrollton, aged seventy-three years, four months and sixteen days.

Mr. House was born February 28, 1841, in Township Malahide, near Aylmer, Ontario, Canada. He came to Michigan and when the Civil War broke out, enlisted in Company 1, First Michigan Light Artillery and served till the close of the war.

He was married to Miss Mary Phillips after the war closed, in Hudson, Mich. Of this union, four children were born, two sons and two daughters. Both sons are dead, but the two daughters, Mamie (Mary) F., and Jennie, are still living.

Mr. House lived in Cleveland, Ohio for twenty years, and was a member of Stedman Post, G.A.R., of Cleveland. He came to this county eight years ago.

Funeral services were held at his home Wednesday at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. P.L. Christmas. Burial at the Bethlehem Cemetery." per his obit.

Cabinet Maker by Occupation. He was from Malahide, Elgin County, Ontario, Canada, His Father Mathew S. House was born in near St. John, New Brunswick born on June 20, 1794 to Abraham House and Agnes Colbourne. Mathew S. House served in was of 1812 on the Canadian Side. This is from the Elgin County Brand of the Ontario Genealogical Society. His Mother was Margaret McGown or McGraw born in Novo Scotia and were married in 1822. His Grandfather Abraham House was also in the war of 1812, and lived in Yarmouth, Elgin county, Ontario, Canada. Grandmother Agnes died in Oct. 11, 1827 of Consumption, (Elgin Co., Ontario Genealogical Soc.)
