Wilbur Gene McCray was born on August 23, 1941 in Ralston, Oklahoma to Jack Richard McCray and Genevive Garland McCray. He passed from this life on Friday, November 12, 2010 in Tulsa, Oklahoma having reached the age of 69 years, 2 months, and 19 days.
He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was proud to be in the First Infantry Division, also known as The Big Red One. After the service he received his Machinist Certificate at Northern Oklahoma College, and supported his family by working in the oilfield.
He married Mary Andra Hodges on November 15, 1968 in Masham, Oklahoma and they later divorced. He moved from Skedee to Pawnee, and was affiliated with the Assembly of God Church in Skedee. He enjoyed and loved his children and grandchildren, and also had a special bond with his former wife, Mary Price. He missed his hunting and fishing days, and even throughout his long illness he never complained.
Wilbur is survived by his children, Rhonda Kelly and her husband, Paul; Jeana Diamond and her companion, L.J. Horsechief, Mike McCray, former wife Mary Price, grandchildren Sarah, Sean and John Kelly; sisters, Carol Fenton, all of Pawnee, Oklahoma; Shirley Elliott and her husband Don, Concord, California, Brothers, Pat McCray and his wife, Connie, Tulsa, Oklahoma; Anthony McCray and his wife, Sandie, Martinez California; plus a number of other relatives and many friends.
Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Genevive McCray, his sister Rhonda Charline McCray, and his brother, Bill Richard McCray.
Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 16 2010 at the First Assembly of God Church, Pawnee, Oklahoma, with Rev. Lance Howell and Rev. James Eubanks officiating. Interment was at Skedee Cemetery, Skedee, Oklahoma, under the direction of Poteet Funeral Home, Pawnee, Oklahoma.
