JOHNSON CITY -- Carrol S. Huffman, 83, of Limestone, died Friday at the Appalachian Christian Village.
Mr. Huffman was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, and a son of the late Charles Roscoe and Mary Elsie Babb Huffman.
He was a 1944 graduate of Washington College Academy.
Mr. Huffman was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II, and was the recipient of a Purple Heart.
He was a second-generation rural mail carrier. His father had carried mail on horseback. Mr. Huffman was a rural mail carrier for Limestone from 1947 to 1982.
He was a lifelong member of the Limestone United Methodist Church and the Limestone Ruritan Club.
Survivors include his loving wife of 62: Margaret Anne Byrd Huffman; his daughter: Suzanne Huffman and her husband, August Schilling, of Southlake, Texas; one sister: Barbara Wright of Telford; one brother: Joseph Huffman of Jonesborough; several nieces and nephews; and several extended family members and friends.
Mr. Huffman was preceded in death by his son: Richard S. Huffman; a brother Daryl Huffman; and two sisters: Dorothy Cross and Margaret Sims.
A graveside service was held at 11:30 this morning in Urbana Cemetery in Limestone. The Rev. Brandon R. Berg officiated.
A luncheon at Limestone United Methodist Church will follow the graveside service.
There will be no formal visitation or funeral service.
