John George Apostol, age 59, of Cream Ridge, New Jersey, died on Wednesday, December 24, 2003, in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton in Hamilton, New Jersey.

Born on April 8, 1944, in the village of Parorion, near Mystras in Sparta, Greece, to Reverend George and Helen Apostolakos, John was the youngest of their 7 (out of 10) children who survived the German occupation of Greece during World War II. He was three years old when he immigrated to New York with his family. As an adult, he legally changed his last name to "Apostol" for professional reasons. John Apostol resided in Laurel Hollow, Long Island, and Manhattan before moving to Cream Ridge in 2003.

John was an entertainment industry expert with over 25 years experience as a performer, booking agent, personal manager, concert promoter, theatrical producer, and publisher. He performed with the Capris ("There's a Moon Out Tonight") as a bass singer and also mangaged the group. In 1972 he formed Banner Talent Associates and represented artists as booking agent for the artists Gary "U.S." Bonds, The Brooklyn Bridge, The Five Satins, The Belmonts, The Capris, Chubby Checker, and The Drifters. As personal manager he managed the careers of Brooklyn Bridge, The Belmonts, The Dovells, the Chrystals, Bullet, Jay and the Americans, Tommy James & the Shondells, Wild Cherry, and Gary "U.S." Bonds. As Gary "U.S." Bonds' personal manager, he contacted Bruce Springsteen and through the collaboration of the two, the albums "Dedication" and "On The Line" were produced, which contained "This Little Girl" and "Out of Work." As president of American Talent Group, he worked with Ace Frehley (lead guitarist of KISS), Jimmy Cliff ("I Can See Clearly Now"), and Joe Lynn Turner (lead singer of Rainbow & Deep Purple). Mr. Apostol successfully promoted concerts at Madison Square Garden, Nassau Coliseum, and various other venues in the New York metropolitan area. He has also produced Off-Broadway shows around the United States and Canada, including a two year tour of the Broadway show "Hair." He also was president of the American Talent Group.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Apostol of Cream Ridge, one daughter, Christine Rowbotham of Old Bridge, New Jersey; one son, George Apostol of Manhattan, New York; five sisters, Margaret Semetis of Whitestone, New York, Gari Demeson of Fort Lee, New Jersey, Christine Govits of Long Island, New York, Paula Nomikos of South Carolina, Katherine Theodosis of Flushing, New York; one brother, The Rev. Paul Apostolakos of Long Island, New York; five grandchildren, Stephanie, Nicholas, Alexander, and Sabrina Rowbotham.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 29, 2003 at 10:00 am at the St George Greek Orthodox Church, 1200 Klockner Road, Hamilton, New Jersey. Relatives and Friends may call Saturday, December 27, 2003 and Sunday, December 28, 2003, from 2 to 4 pm and from 7 to 9 pm at the Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, 3377 Route 9, Old Bridge, New Jersey. Trisaigon service will be at 3:30 pm during the calling hours on Saturday. Interment will be in the Cream Ridge Cemetery, Cream Ridge, New Jersey.
