Ruby was born in Rangataua in 1909, the eldest daughter of Adam & Eva Aikman, she grew up on the great barrier island and married Edwin Alcock in 1930, the marriage didn't last and she married again in 1934 to William Henderson, the couple moved to Raetihi and had two daughters, Doris, Betty and two sons, Roy, who died as an infant, and Jimmy who was run over and killed as a young adult. Ruby married again in the 1950s to Harold Smith, they lived in Rangataua until Ruby's death in 1995.
