Toward the end of the war, Isaiah reenlisted in the 51st OVI Regiment, joining the same company as his brother John D Baker. Sadly Isaiah died on a troop train enroute from Victoria, Texas to Columbus, Ohio. His military service record describes him as "age 23 and by occupation a farmer. This soldier has blue eyes, light hair, fair complexion and is five feet 8 inches high."
Isaiah's widow Nancy applied for a pension on his record and received a monthly allotment until her death on 27 December 1912.
