SMITHSBURG - C. Jane Waltz, 83, of
Jefferson Boulevard, died Monday,
Sept. 27, 2004, at Washington
County Hospital.
Born Feb. 23, 1921, in Hagerstown,
she was the daughter of the late
John E. and Helen P. Baker Loudenslager.
She graduated from Hagerstown High School
with the class of 1939.
She was a member of Bethel United Methodist
Church for 63 years, taught Sunday school
for 42 years and was a choir member for 23
years.
She was a devoted wife, mother, homemaker,
a loving, quiet and gentle person, who loved
her family and her church family.
She and her husband, John, led many children to know God as their savior. They are known to many local children as Grandma and Grandpa Waltz.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, John J. Waltz Sr., whom she married Aug. 6, 1939; two sons, John J. Waltz Jr. and wife, Sally, of Smithsburg, and Richard L. Waltz and wife, Alice, of Greencastle, Pa.; sister, Margaret Elizabeth Athey of Hagerstown; grandchildren, Richard L. Waltz Jr. of Jackson Hole, Wyo., Jacob J. Waltz of Smithsburg and Thomas J. Waltz of Greencastle; great-grandchildren, Brandon Waltz, Rachel Waltz, Jordon Morkved, Danny Morkved and Sara E. Waltz; niece, Jennifer Garnes; and nephew, Michael McAllister.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Betty Joan Loudenslager, Audrey Loudenslager and Gladys McAllister.
Services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, with the Rev. John W. Schildt officiating. Burial will be in Smithsburg Cemetery.
Family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
