Edward Baker was born in Virginia (now West Virginia), a son of Esaias and Mary ? Baker. The family moved to Ohio by 1800, census substitute of Washington County. In 1810, Esaias purchased land in Linton Township, receiving the final certificate in 1817. Son Edward married Sarah Weakley on 21 April 1816 in Coshocton County, Ohio. Edward was enumerated in Linton Twp in 1820 in the household between Benjamin Wells and Esaias Baker. Sarah and Edward had a family of eight children: Elizabeth, Abednego, Mary, Susannah, Rachael, Edward, Otho (Oathaniel in probate documents) and Sarah.

By 1840 Edward farmed property in Lafayette Township and also Linton Township. When Edward died in 1852, widow Sarah declined to administer the estate, and the judge appointed John Wells, husband of daughter Rachael, and son Abednego as administrators. The estate was tied up in court for five years, as first the widow and later the heirs sued to partition the distribution of the real property.

No record of burial for Sarah Weakley Baker has been found to date.
