Firefighter Mayo was a 19 year veteran of the Houston Fire Department. He entered the Department on June 29, 1981. In the early morning hours of February 14, 2000 he was called to a fire at the McDonalds Restaurant located at 12602 Bissonnet. While fighting this fire the roof collapsed and firefighter Mayo was fatally wounded. It was later determined by the Houston Arson Division to be an arson fire. Three young men were trying to break into a safe and started a fire
Firefighter Mayo was a devoted family man and was a soccer coach for his daughters soccer team.
He will be missed by all who knew him and worked with him.
Firefighter Mayo left this world with his sister firefighter Kimberly Ann Smith.
