---Mr. Morgan J. Alexander, whose sickness and death was mentioned yesterday, was a native of this county, having been born in Fredonia township, June 5, 1838. His early life was spent on a farm in the manner usual with country lads, and his schooling was such as could be obtained from the common schools of the day. In 1865 he removed to this city, where he has since resided, and embarked in the lumber business, a pursuit he followed until his death. Less than a week ago he was taken with a billious attack, but his illness was not considered dangerous, and on Tuesday afternoon he rode up to the fair ground. Wednesday morning he was seized with a congestive chill. He seemed to realize that the end was near and attempted to talk with his sister in relation to his business affairs, but was soon seized with a second chill, resulting in congestion of the brain, unconsciousness, and death on Thursday evening, Sept. 28. Mrs. Alexander was married Nov. 27, 1865, to Miss Mary Hendrick, who died in April of this year. Their only child died while yet an infant. His mother is still living, and one brother - Walter Alexander - and three sisters - Miss Anna Alexander, of this city, and Mrs. Maria Montague, and Mrs. Emma C. Piper, of Kansas, - also survive him. Mr. Alexander possessed unusual force of character, and was preeminently a self-made man. By his death Marshall loses one of its most public spirited citizens, one who was ready to assist in every good work, and willing to bear his full share of every public burden. His kindly disposition and affable manners gained him many friends, and his memory will long be cherished.
---The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at his late residence.
