Marshall A. Wagar
Marshall Alexander Wagar was born in Green River, Henry County, Illinois, August 15, 1868, and died in Edgar, Nebraska, June 3, 1940, at the age of 71 years, 9 months and 18 days.
His mother died when he was six years old and his grandmother came to stay with the family. The family moved to Richardson County, Nebraska, near Humboldt, when he was ten years old.
He was married to Mary Caroline Vough on May 11, 1892, at Shickley, Nebraska. Mrs. Wagar preceded him in death August 6, 1929. Eight children were born into this family. All of the children are still living. They are: Harry A.Wagar of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; Gladys M. Wagar of Alliance, Nebraska; Snover D. Wagar of Norfolk, Nebraska; Margaret D. Wagar and Mrs. Cecil R. Henry of Edgar, Nebraska: Mrs. E. W. Kincade of Grand Island, Nebraska; Marshal; A. Wagar, Jr., of Canton, South Dakota; and Mrs. C. C. Messler of Bend, Oregon.
Mr. Wagar had three sisters and four brothers. Those surviving are: Mrs. E. E. Rollier of Davenport, Nebraska; A. T. Wagar of Pittsburg, Kansas, and E. O. Wagar of Bonner, Montana. He leaves also seven grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
The family came to Edgar in 1911 and lived here for 29 years. Mr. Wagar began work on the C. B. & Q. Railroad in 1900 and retired from service in the spring of 1929 because of ill health.
He joined the Christian church at the age of 19 at Plainview near Mead, Saunders County, Nebraska. His membership was in the Baptist Church at Western, Nebraska, at the time of his death.
A host of friends will miss his friendly greeting and kindly smile. He treated all of his friends with the true Christian spirit.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 5, at 2:00 p.m., at the Christian Church with John W. Kile in charge. Singers were Mrs. Roy Cline, Gladys Hunter, Mary Jayne Sears, Mrs. W. R. Jacobsen, A. A. Recht, Maurice Jacobsen and Murray Nisely with Mrs. H. D. Harmon at the piano.
Pallbearers were: Char. Harpster, Wm. Goesch, H. L. Stein, Wade Babers, Cecil Strawser and Guy Kinkead.
Interment was made in the Edgar Cemetery.
