Fred "Curt" Barnes, 90, of 720 Elm Drive, Hughesville, died Monday, March 29, 2010, at home.

Born April 19, 1919 in Williamsport, he was a son of the late Earle V. and Frances (Lindauer) Barnes.

On Aug. 17, 1963, he married the former Marie E. "Mike" (Mallon) Barnes, with whom he has shared 46 years of marriage.

Curt graduated from Muncy High School in 1937, where he was co-captain of the football team in his senior year and a 3-year football and basketball letterman. A U. S. Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific from 1941 to 1945.

He previously owned the former Melody Bar in Williamsport, the former Pine Café in Muncy, and the former Mike's Tavern in Hughesville. Curt was also co-owner of the former Yeagle & Barnes used cars. He presently owned the Muncy Car Wash.

Curt was a member of the Church of the Resurrection in Muncy. A founding member of Roland Ritter Post #268 American Legion in Muncy, he currently belonged to the Glenn Sharrow Post #35 American Legion in Hughesville and was a lifetime member of the Edward J. Smith Post #3428 V.F.W., Muncy.

Curt was a 63-year member of Muncy Lodge #299, F&AM and a 50-year member of the Zafar Grotto in South Williamsport. He previously maintained memberships in the Williamsport Consistory and the Irem Temple.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, Brian Curtis Barnes of Hughesville; five daughters, Kay Ann (Jim) Torsell of Bellwood, Joyce (Gary) Peterman of Grass Valley, Calif., Deb (Dennis) Battuello of Superior, Wisconsin, Rosemary Bower of Williamsport, and Pauline (Dave) Dawson of Chantilly, Virginia; one stepson, Daniel Dougherty of Middletown; 17 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Lee E. Barnes, and a sister, Beverly Overdurf.
