Mr. Yount received his education in a rural school, Hartwick School, and the Brooklyn school, graduating from the Brooklyn High School in 1927.
He farmed southeast of Hartwick for some time, then operated the Farm Service tank wagon and last was the Poweshiek County Assessor for 15 years, retiring in 1974.
On July 28, 1930, he as united in marriage to Katherine E. Gross in in Brooklyn, Iowa.
Fred was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Brooklyn. During his retirement he did volunteer driving for the Council on Aging.
Surviving are his wife, Katherine; one daughter, Patricia Kies of Brooklyn, IA; two sons and their wives, Philip and Donna Yount of Tigard, Oregon and Duane and Darla Yount of Dania, Florida; two brothers and their wives, Claude and Nan Yount of Olympia, Washington, and Lewis and Grace Yount of Bellevue, Washington; one sister, Mrs. Edith Kriegel of Lacey, Washington; nine grandchildren; thirteen great Grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Bruce Alan; one sister, Ruth Hammen; and an infant brother.
