CHURCH WORKER DIES ON MONDAY
MRS. W.U. FAUNCE PASSES AWAY AT HOME AFTER LONG ILLNESS
WAS LIFELONG WORKER IN CHRISTIAN CHURCH AND SCHOOL
FUNERAL TO BE HELD THURSDAY
Mrs. Wm. U. Faunce, one of the widely known and greatly loved church workers of Petoskey and Northern Michigan passed away Monday afternoon at the family home on Curtis Avenue. She had been in failing health for several months and during the past few weeks realized the end was near. She was 67 years of age and had resided in Petoskey nearly a quarter of a century.
Mrs. Faunce was a lifelong member of the Christian church and always an active worker, teacher and leader. She was especially interested in the Missionary Society and Sunday School. For several years she taught the Loyal Women's class of the Petoskey church. Of a quiet, kind disposition, she always thought of the needs of others.
Born on May 23, 1867 in DeKalb County, Indiana, she went when a small child with her parents to Newaygo County, locating near Fremont. On March 21, 1887, she was married to William U. Faunce, at Newaygo. They moved at once to Burt Lake where Mr. Faunce had secured a farm.
Their farm home became a center of community and church life
and the family became active leaders in all worthwhile causes.
About 26 years ago, the family moved to a farm near Petoskey and two years later located at 1031 Curtis Avenue. About two years ago they moved into a new home at 1029 Curtis Avenue.
Mrs. Faunce is survived by her husband, who for many years has been an assistant to Rev. G.A. Weaver in Sunday school missionary work as well as an able assistant to the pastor of the First Christian Church in this city; four sons include Verald Faunce, Detroit; Donald Faunce, Los Angeles; Cleo Faunce, Big Rapids; and Lyle Faunce, Petoskey; and three daughters, Mrs. Sheldon Cole, Traverse City; Mrs. R.C. Robinson, and Mrs. Frank Jacobs, Petoskey. Three brothers also survive, Charles Davis of Petoskey, Ora Davis, Detroit; and Connel Davis, Copley, Ohio. There are ten grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held from the First Christian church Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with the pastor Rev. J. N. Booth in charge. Burial will be in Greenwood.
