Walter "Joe" Joseph Barker

Walter Joseph Barker, "Joe", 83 of Georgetown, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, November 18, 2010. Visitation was held on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel. A service celebrating Joe's life and faith was held on Sunday, November 21, 2010 at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel. His daughter Rev. Kathryne Snodgrass officiated the service. Interment followed at Berry's Creek Cemetery.
Joe was born October 30, 1927 in Georgetown, to the late Walter Wilburn and Mamie Elizabeth Ischy Barker. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Barker Mendez. Joe was a graduate of Georgetown High School in 1944. Joe married Otha Pauline Whitfield on March 7, 1947. He worked for over 33 years for the Texas Department of Transportation. Joe retired in 1989, as a Superintendent, but over the years held many different titles and responsibilities.
Joe and Polly were long time members of the Assembly of God. Joe enjoyed fishing, woodworking, gardening, and spending time with his family. His family will enjoy the memories they have.
Joe leaves behind his loving wife of 63 years, Pauline "Polly" Barker, his children, Sue Van Noy and her husband Anthony of Jarrell,Tx, Kathryne Snodgrass and her husband David of McCamey Tx, Mary Dubey and her husband Larry of New Hampshire, and Beth Montgomery and her husband Don of Bryan, Tx; 12 grandchildren, Carrie Borst and husband Charles, Joseph Snodgrass and wife Katherine, Amanda Royston and husband Mace, Jacob Snodgrass and wife Sarah, Brian Conway and wife Tiffany, Joshua Antilley, Ashley and Rebecca Montgomery, Abigail Cooper and husband Shawn, Ethan Montgomery, Priscilla Van Noy and Lee Austin Van Noy; 10 great grandchildren, Jonathan and Samantha Borst, William and Harrison Snodgrass, Benjamin Borst, Scarlett Snodgrass, Gracelynn Cooper, Isabella Borst, Carley Cooper and Olivia Royston along with numerous other loving family members and friends.
