American pre-war blues singer and guitar player. Said to be one of the greatest country blues players by Rev. Gary Davis. Moved to Spartanburg by 1916 as a young man and became lifelong resident of Spartanburg. Recorded 4 titles in Atlanta, Ga. 1928 with Pink Anderson. Simmie is buried in the overgrown section at the north side of the cemetery with no grave marker.
