Garland Everett Crawford, 89, died on November 7, 2010. He was born in Flower Mound, Texas on August 27, 1921 to Frank and Nannie Nowlin Crawford. Garland graduated from Lewisville High School in 1939 and was a World War II veteran serving in the Navy as Aviation Ordnanceman Second Class. He was awarded the Air Medal for his participation in the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Garland married Doris Allen on November 3, 1945. He was a lifetime farmer in Denton and Fannin Counties. He was a member of the First Methodist Church in Lewisville for thirty years where he served in many capacities including Sunday School Superintendent. He was a devoted member of the Ector Methodist Church for thirty-five years where he also served and was cherished by church members. Garland served on the Lewisville Independent School District Board of Trustees 1965-1971. He served on the Appraisal Review Board in Denton and Fannin Counties. Garland was a descendant of the Crawford and Nowlin pioneer families of the Flower Mound and Bethel (now Highland Village) communities in Denton County. He farmed in the Camey area (now The Colony) until 1974 and then farmed in Ector, Texas. Garland's greatest pride was meeting with his fellow veterans and shipmates from the USS White Plains each year. He was fortunate enough to attend this October. He was preceded in death by his parents, by his sister, Edd, and his brothers Walter, Nowlin, and James. He is survived by: wife Doris; daughters Susan and husband Tom Lett of Highland Village, Texas and Dinah and husband Dan Mueller of League City, Texas; grandsons Will Lett and wife Ashley of Dallas and grandson Ross Crawford Lewis of Webster, Texas; great-grand children Logan, Caroline, and William Lett; and by cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 10, 2010, at First United Methodist Church in Lewisville. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville. The family requests memorial contributions to be made to any organization of donor's choice.
