Nellie I. Guzevich, age 72, 248 Main St., Catawissa, died at 6:20 a. m. Thursday, November 18, 2010, at the Pomona Valley Medical Center, Pomona, Calif. where she was a patient for five days.
Born on January 14, 1938 in Perris, Calif., she was a daughter of the late Edward D. and Mary Luise (Ruiz) Romero. She resided in the Catawissa area since 1988.
A 1956 graduate of Perris High School, Perris, Calif., she also attended San Bernadino Valley Community College. Early in her life she was employed as a teachers aide. Locally she was well known as a member of the Polka Family Band where she sang and played the tambourine. The band traveled extensively along the East coast and in the Mid-West. The band was nominated for a Grammy Award.
She was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church, Bloomsburg.
Nellie was very creative, crocheting, doing embroidery, painting and drawing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank T. Guzevich on January 22, 2006.
Surviving are three sons: Fred R. Guzevich, and his wife Diane, Bloomsburg; Hank M. Guzevich, and his wife Jodi, Bloomsburg; Greg P. Guzevich, and his wife Tracy, Allentown; a daughter, Alecia L., wife of Rick Vinecki, Interlochen, Mich.; 17 grandchildren; one great-grandson; three brothers: Frank Romero, Michael Romero and his wife Gayla, Martin Romero and his wife Edith; four sisters: Ramona Romero, Vicky Traveino, Annie Perez and Rachel, wife of Emerald Reyes, all of California.
