Clarence Ronald Welch
'Ron'
Mr. Welch, of Charlotte, NC died on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at the age of 71, after a short battle with lung cancer. Ron is survived by his mother Frances Welch, his son James R. Welch, daughter Margaret F. Welch, dog Jack, and special friend Ann Harrelson.
Ron was a very colorful man who always made people around him comfortable with his sense of humor and kindness. He was a very loving father and a loyal friend, always looking out for the interests of others over his own personal needs.
Ron served his country for 27 years in the NC National Guard. His involvement with the US Army was vast, ranging from Special Forces to Army Aviation. Ron also was a pilot during Vietnam War for Air America. Ron loved to fly and when he was too old to fly took up the hobby of purchasing small model airplanes.
Ron also worked for 25 years in the Tire Repair industry for Truflex/Pang and Tech Rubber companies. He was very proud of the work he did in the industry and loved his job, especially teaching trainees about tire repair.
It is impossible to write in this short space how many people this man touched in his life nor is it possible to explain how great of a father he was to his children. Ron will be deeply missed, but those he left behind are comforted by the fact he is no longer suffering and can be with his wife Margaret once again.
The family will receive friends at Harry & Bryant Company on Friday, November 19 from 6 - 8 p.m. Ron will be laid to rest at Sharon Memorial Park on Saturday, November 20 at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Charlotte Rescue Mission on his behalf.
In closing I would like to pass on words of wisdom from a hero of Ron Welch: 'Get correct views of life, and learn to see the world in its true light. It will enable you to live pleasantly, to do good, and, when summoned away, to leave without regret.' - Robert E. Lee. Published in Charlotte Observer on November 18, 2010
