Karl grew up in Orchard Park, N.Y. Son of Michael Jacobik and Linda Jacobik Jackson, brother of Keith Jacobik. A 2000 graduate of Orchard Park High School he earned his varsity letters in wrestling and lacrosse. He played in the state finals lacrosse tournament his senior year. He graduated from Buffalo State College in 2004 with a bachelor's degree in Mathematics.

Karl relocated to Montana after falling in love with the area. He worked seasonally in Canyon and Old Faithful as a shopkeeper and snow coach driver. He later became a hunting guide and raft guide for Montana Whitewater. In 2006 Karl met Sarah and became engaged shortly before his death.

He developed his love of the outdoors as a youngster, skiing at age 3 and going hunting with his father. Out West, he enjoyed back country skiing and mountain climbing.

Karl could be found rafting Yankee Jim Canyon at high water, summiting Eagle Peak on the border of Yellowstone National Park or exploring the mountains of Montana. Most of all he loved backcountry skiing with his brother and close friends. He lived his life to the fullest.

Karl died when his SUV rolled over and pinned him after he swerved to avoid a deer. He and 3 others were on their way to a hunting trip. Karl was the only fatality.

Karl had the kind of spirit that touched everyone he met. He will be forever loved and missed.

As I love nature, as I love singing birds ... I love thee, my friend." - Henry David Thoreau
