MAYSVILLE, Iowa — Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Helen V. Frye, 90, a resident of rural Maysville, Iowa, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 13, 2011, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 417 Main St., Davenport. Burial will take place in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main St., downtown Davenport, where a prayer service will be offered at 4 p.m. Helen died peacefully with family and friends by her side on Friday, October 7, 2011, at her home.

Helen Victoria Carlin was born on January 21, 1921, in Davenport, a daughter of John and Victoria (Springmeier) Carlin. She was united in marriage to Bernard Arnold Frye on August 9, 1941, in Davenport. He preceded her in death on April 12, 2000.

Helen was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church for many years and a former longtime member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. She had been actively involved in several organizations including Golden Wedding Club, Scott County Farm Bureau, Davenport Liedertafel Ladies, Golden Agers, CASI and several antique car clubs.

She most enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Maysville Fire Department, Down By the Creek Companion Animal Programs, Inc., or the Iowa Women's Foundation.

Survivors include her three daughters and their families, Victoria Livingston, Centennial, Colo., Patricia (William) Lounsbury and Susan Frye (Dr. Michael Kienzle) all of Iowa City, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Todd (Maria) Livingston, Chad (Pence) Livingston, Jud (Katy) Lounsbury, Adam (Molly Maguire) Lounsbury, Joseph Lounsbury, and Martha and Samuel Kienzle; and her great-grandchildren, Lily, Linden, Juniper and Violet Lounsbury; Lilah Livingston; Adlai and Henry Lounsbury; and Rossi Livingston.

Her family thanks Dr. Blair Foreman and Dr. Ann O'Donnell, and Genesis Hospice, and her personal caregivers Debbie Wallace, Lisa Thomson, Kathy Folger, Ellen Davis, Connie Hodge, Cindy Beadel, Melody Anderson and Patti Sampson-Steeno. Most of all, the family is indebted to Shelly Kling, without whom Helen would not have had the quality of life she enjoyed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bernard, three sisters and four brothers.
