The Ponca City News
Garold Edward Huddleston, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend went to be with the Lord on Nov. 19, 2010, surrounded by his family in Ponca City. G.E. was 77. G.E. and his wife Joyce were residents of Ponca City.

Garold, known to friends as G.E., was born on April 26, 1933, in Skedee, Okla., to Garrett and Edna Earnhart Huddleston. He grew up in and attended school in Skedee. As a junior he transferred to Blackburn, Okla., where he graduated in 1951. It was at Blackburn that he met his future wife, Joyce Allene Robinson. G.E. and Joyce were married at the Blackburn Baptist Church on Feb. 6, 1953. They established their first home in Winfield, Kan. To this union was born their daughter, Denise. He was a very devoted and loving husband and father. G.E. and Joyce would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on Feb. 6, 2011.

G.E. worked at Boeing Aircraft and Cessna Aircraft until Jan. 1, 1960, at which time they moved to Ponca City. G. E. worked at Conoco Refinery and was known as "Hudd". He retired as Shift Fire Marshall in May of 1985. He enjoyed working several years alongside, Dr. John and Dr. Lisa Good at the Ponca Animal Clinic. He loved working with his horses and cattle and raised them for years before being forced to give them up due to his health. They lived for 50 years in Ponca City and on their present acreage for 48 years. They raised their daughter and entertained their grand and great-grandchildren around the horses and on the banks of his pond. The neighborhood atmosphere afforded him many years of close comradeship with his close neighbors and friends.

He was a long-time devoted member of Northeast Baptist Church in Ponca City, where he was an active member of the Adult Six, Sunday School Class. The men of the class supported each other throughout their lives together and will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. G. E. spent his life collecting many lifelong and cherished friends.

G.E. who his family describes as the "ideal Father and Grandpa" enjoyed being a part of all his family's activities. He constantly worked at creating the ideal recreational area for all to enjoy. Yearly trips were taken to the Conejos River area in Colorado for trout fishing and family time with his grandsons and close family. His favorite times and activities were those spent with his grandsons and great-grandchildren. He played an integral part in raising three admiring young boys into hard working, loving and respected young men.

G.E. was a man of great strength, kindness, warmth, love and understanding. Throughout his years of illnesses he inspired his family and friends with his optimism, lack of complaint and selfless concern for others. He was genuinely interested in his family and friends and always made each one experience how he loved, valued and treasured each one. His hallmark was his ability to bring humor to all aspects of life, listen and demonstrate how much he cared about each and every detail of the lives of his family. He intuitively knew what others needs were and how best to serve them. His non-judgmental spirit, loving disposition and acceptance of others was evident in his godliness and Christian life. His pattern of life was demonstrated with his underlying style of horse breaking that transferred over to his method of raising grandsons and, that was best demonstrated by his ability to bring out their true spirit but would never allow the spirit to be broken or stolen in man or animal.

G.E. will be greeted in heaven by his infant son Carl Edward, father and mother Jarrett and Edna Huddleston, brother Cletus Huddleston and wife Norma. Sisters, Mary Wills and husband Jimmy, Georgetta Dunn and husband Lloyd, and numerous other family and friends.

Left to carry on his legacy is his wife Joyce, of the home; daughter Dr. Denise and husband Mike Coldwater of Enid; grandsons and families, Lafe Coldwater and daughter Cynthia of Stillwater, Chase Coldwater and wife Morgan and Braden (expected in April 2011) of Woodward, Gage Coldwater and wife Kelly and children, Aurora and Pike of Buna, Texas. He is survived by his sister Ellen Jernigan and husband Wayne of Springfield, Mo. Sister Ima Clymer of Pawhuska, and Bert Huddleston and wife Iona of Tonkawa, along with many nieces and nephews, long time friends Kenneth and Kitty Conley and a lifetime of loving neighbors and friends.

G.E.'s spirit will live on among all of those who knew and loved him. Comfort and assurance will be found in the promise that G.E's long and trying cardio troubles will be nonexistent in heaven with Jesus. He has looked forward to being united with those who have gone on before him while he waits for those he has left on here to finish his earthly business.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 22, at Northeast Baptist Church, 2200 North Pecan, Ponca City, under the direction of Poteet Funeral Home of Pawnee with graveside following at Riverside Cemetery at Ralston, Okla.

Reverend Larry Nigh will officiate the service. Pallbearers to serve him one last time in this life will be Mike, Lafe, Chase and Gage Coldwater and Kenneth Conely and Dale Zehr. Honorary pallbearers are his members of his NE Baptist Adult Six Sunday class.
