Willie "Larry" Baxley, 64, a lifelong resident of Brunswick, but has resided in Nahunta for the past 6 years, died November 20, 2010 at his residence after an extended illness. Mr. Baxley attended Glynn Academy and was a retired Vietnam Veteran of the U.S. Army, E-8 Master Sgt. He received a National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter (M-1), Sharpshooter (45), Expert (M-14), Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign medal, with two OLC, Good Conduct Medal, Bar Bronze Star Medal, and a Purple Heart. He was a devoted husband, loving father, a precious son and great Papa. He will be sadly missed.

He was preceded in death by his father, Johnny Kirk, who raised him since he was two years old, and the mother of his three children, Ann Anderson Baxley Green of Brunswick. Survivors include his mother, Velma Kirk; father, Willie Baxley of Baxley; one sister, Cheryl Morse (David); loving wife of 18 years, Carolyn Wilson Baxley, three daughters, Lisa Gilmore (Kevin), Christin Mankin and Cheyenne Baxley; one son, Larry Baxley II, all of Brunswick; four wonderful step daughters, Tracy Wilson, Angie Whipple, Dana Wilson and Tammy Hamlet; 16 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Family received friends at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday in the chapel of Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home, services followed at 1:00 p.m. with Brother Mike Lee officiating. Burial followed in Chapel Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Satilla.
