"Family records as told to Louella Jane Dyer, said that John's mind failed him and for awhile he was put in an asylum. He was said to be a scholar of the Bible and an educated man in Mining and had several copper mines in Georgia and maybe Tennessee."
John S. Davis was committed to the insane asylum on 15 May 1860 in Milledgeville, Baldwin County Georgia. The family says he stayed there about 3 years. They (the asylum) could not help him, so Mary brought him home. He had to have a special room to stay in.
