Marilyn "Toofie" (Toof) Barnes, 71, of Wintergreen Circle, Harwinton, wife of William G. Barnes, died Thursday, (May 29, 2003) peacefully at home with her family. She was born April 6, 1932 in Enosburgh, VT, daughter of Madeline (Gelbar) Lovell of Bristol and the late William C. Toof.

She had lived in Simsbury and Bristol for many years prior to moving to Harwinton two years ago. She was a graduate of Simsbury High School and Tunxis Community College. Marilyn was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the U.S. Marines and the Navy Reserves and was employed as a teachers' aide with the Bristol and Simsbury School Systems for many years prior to her retirement. She started and was a member of the Sweet Adelines in Bristol. Marilyn loved her family and friends, camping, fishing and bowling. She was very much involved with crafts of all kinds, making porcelain dolls, baking and decorating wedding and special occasion cakes.

Besides her husband and mother, she is survived by a daughter, Kelly Barkoski and her husband Raymond of East Litchfield; a sister, Gloria Yasny of West Granby; a brother, Dean Monarch of Arizona; a granddaughter, Rhiannon Barkoski; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister and a brother, Leah (Toof) Wainauski and Stewart E. Toof. Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Turnpike, Canton Monday, June 2, 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be Tuesday, June 3, 10 a.m., at the Vincent Funeral Home, Canton. Burial will be in North Canton Cemetery, North Canton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Center for Cancer Care, Oncology Department, 200 Kennedy Drive, Torrington, CT 06790.
