Death came to Henry G. Howder at the home of his son, Fred Howder northeast of Creighton Tuesday April 8 after chronic illness extending over a period of twenty years.

The body was accompanied to Sioux City, April 9th. The funeral was held from Wescott Chapel, conducted by Mayor Short of Sioux City. Interment was made in Floyde cemetery.

Henry G. Howder was born in Lancaster county, Penn., Nov. 9, 1844. At the age of 18, he enlisted in Penn. and served in the Civil War for 18 months.

He removed to Illinois in 1869, where he later married Mary J. Howder, of the identical surname, but not related until by marriage.

In 1869 he removed to Kingsley, Ia., where he purchased a half section of land. Here for several years, Mr. and Mrs. Howder resided. Six children were born, two of whom died in infancy, one in later years. The three who survive him are William, Ekalaka, Montana, Emma Burkhardt, Kingsley, Iowa and James, Sioux City, Ia.

Mrs. Howder died during the period of their residence in Iowa. In 1879. Mr. Howder was married to Elizabeth Esterhill. To this union four children were born. They are Fred Howder, Creighton, Neb., Mrs. Susan Foken, Raymond, S.D., Mrs. Della Youndt, Leeds, Iowa and Mrs. Stella Thompson, Kingsley, Iowa.

In 1901 Mr. Howder disposed of his Iowa real estate and removed to Creighton, Neb., where he purchased the half section of land then known as the Butterfield north ranch situated about 1 and one half miles north of Creighton. Here he made his home until nine years ago, when he removed to Sioux City, where he resided until last fall, when he again took up his residence with his son, Fred, on the farm north of Creighton, where he continued to to reside until his death.

Mr. Howder was an energetic man and during his earlier days labored long and incessantly. By his application and labor acquired for himself a competence sufficient to provide adequately and well for himself and family.

During a three quarter century of years, Mr. Howder lived a life clean and honorable. He was well and favorably known and highly respected in every community in which he resided. He had a wide acquaintance in Knox county, where he was known as a hog raiser with the ability to realize many dollars more than ordinarily was realized by hog raisers.

He was also a stock holder of the First State Bank of Bazile Mills, Neb.
