Army Chief Warrant Officer 2 Egnor was assigned to E Co, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Egnor was killed in an MH-47E crash during a training exercise off of the Philippine Islands. The chopper caught fire before plunging into shark-infested waters and exploding on impact in the Bohol Sea. Jody was a 1988 graduate of Lakota High School in Liberty Township, Butler County, Ohio. His father coached his baseball team for 10 years, starting when Jody was 6. Father and son were very close and each time they parted, they told each other, "I love you". After graduation, he enlisted in the Army and served as a UH-60 Blackhawk crewmember and maintainer until attending Warrant Officer Candidate School at Fort Rucker, Alabama in 1995. He graduated from Warrant Officer Candidate School in August 1995, where he proceeded to the CH-47D aircraft qualification course. Egnor was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where he served as a CH-47D pilot and Aviation Life Support equipment (ALSE) Officer, from March 1997 to June 2000. Jody was an optimist who looked for the best in everything. When something would go wrong, he'd always say, "It'll be all right."
