He came to Jasper in 1946 and began his medical practice at Hardy Hancock Hospital. In 1964, he founded Mary E. Dr. Joe was an avid reader. He enjoyed traveling, history and archeology. He did extensive study and held lectures on the Shroud of Turin. He was a Distinguished Honoree of the Foundation on Judiasim and Christian Origins and helped discover documents that contributed to translating the Dead Sea Scrolls. But his life's love was being a country doctor and taking care of his patients. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Jasper Volunteer Fire Department at P. O. Dr. Joe was obviously a unique man. His life should be an example and testament to us all. A caring and accomplished man who lived his life to it's very fullest, may he rest eternally in peace and be lovingly remembered by his family, friends, associates, and patients.
