Alfred Chaplin died at 9:30 Tuesday morning at the family residence, 1102 St. Louis Ave. He was eighty years old and eighteen days. He had been in poor health for a years, but was confined to his bed for only one week. His death was caused by Brights disease.
Mr. Chaplin was born in Claremont county, Ohio, Sept. 1, 1831. He came to Illinois in 1855 and settled at Olney remaining there until 1893, when he moved to Decatur. He married Lucy Malin in 1852. She died in 1871. Two children of this union survived, they are John Chaplin of Olney and Mrs. C. F. Kilgore of Pana. His second wife was Abbie Bratton, whom he married in Nov. 1874. She and the daughter survive him. The daughter is Mrs. Gertrude Keefe of Decatur. He also leaves two stepchildren, Mrs. Mary Cazel of Springfield and William Bratton of Decatur.
The funeral will be held at ? Thursday afternoon at the residence. The interment will be in Greenwood.
