Margaret Austin McAlexander, 87, of 1270 The Great Road, Fieldale, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.

She was born in Patrick County on July 5, 1923, to Albert Green Austin and Rosie Lee Boyd Austin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Homer McAlexander; four sisters, Elsie Parcell, Eliza Woods, Ida Sutphin and Pearlie Ore; and one brother, William Woodrow Austin.

She retired after 42 years with Fieldcrest Mills where she worked in yarn prep.

She was a member of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church for more than 50 years and was a member of the Methodist Women's Faith Circle, the Adult Sunday School Class and the Rangeley Homemakers.

Surviving are two daughters, Frances M. Rakes and Virginia M. Osborne, both of Fieldale; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church with Minister Steve Garner officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Arrangements are being handled by Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Bassett.
