Ethel Gertrude Hettwer, age 88 of East Grand Forks, MN, passed away October 2, 2008 at her home.

Ethel was born to Peter and Anna (Janowski) Korb on June 8, 1920 on the farm of her Korb grandparents near Calio, ND. She attended grade school at Calio, ND. She attended high school at Egeland and graduated as valedictorian of her class in 1936. She attended Minot State Teacher's College. She taught in schools of Cavalier County for five years.

Ethel married Vincent Hettwer at the air base of Eagle Pass, Texas on January 7, 1945. After the war, Vincent and Ethel settled at Calio, ND, where Vincent had a repair shop and sold fuel oil. In 1965 they moved to Crookston. The family moved to East Grand Forks in 1969. Ethel was an active member of the Royal Neighbors and Sacred Heart Guild.

Ethel is survived by her sons: Michael (Darlene); Joseph; Paul (Nancy); and James (Judy), all of Grand Forks, Raymond (Patty) of Brea CA, Richard (Elaine) of Rochester, MN, Peter (Wanda) of West Fargo. Daughters surviving are Clarine Moen (Ron) of Lincoln, NE; Mary Mangen (Joseph) of Sleepy Eye, MN; Theresa Schober (Jim) of Grand Forks and Patricia Hettwer (Kip Viau) of Thompson, ND. Survivors also include sisters Eileen Beck (Rallan), Munich, ND, Sister Maris Stella of the Presentation Sisters of Fargo and a brother Harvey of St. Charles, MN. Thirty grandchildren and Seventeen great-grandchildren also survive.

Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a great grandson, a sister Jeanette, and an infant son, Francis.
