George M. Brown was one of nine children borne of the union of John Franklin Brown (1816-1894) and Priscilla H. (Burkhart) Brown (1820-1887) who married in Knox County, Tennessee. His parents lived in Knox Co., Tennessee until after a child was born in 1852 and before another child was born in 1854. They lived in Mulberry Grove, Bond Co., Illinois where their father was a Carpenter and also farmed land with the older sons to support his family.
George was married three times. His first marriage was to Mary Jane Tolbert (1842-1867) on Nov 24, 1861. She died on Sep 15, 1867 in Williamson, Illinois, after he had returned from serving in the Union Army during the War Between the States. His 2nd marriage was to Ruth Midgett on July 8th, 1868 at Marion, Williamson Co., Illinois. The disposition of that marriage is unknown to me. He married a 3rd and final time to Nettie T. Wellman on Dec 25, 1877. Two daughters (at least) were born from this union. Anna Myrtle Brown was born Oct 24, 1886 in Texas and died Sep 18, 1895 in Woodbine, Cooke Co., Texas. She was buried at Nelson Grove Cemetery, Oak Ridge, Cooke Co., Texas. Another daughter, Josie Isabele "Belle" Brown, was born Dec 16, 1895 in Woodbine, Cooke Co., Texas. She went on to wed Charles M. Colard (1892-1973), a native of Kentucky. They were living in Sacramento, California when he died Apr 22, 1973 and he was buried at Sacramento Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Sacramento, California. Josie was in Cushing, Payne Co., Oklahoma when she died on Mar 6, 1990. She is interred with her husband at Sacramento Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Sacramento, California.
George's wife, Nettie, died Aug 7, 1899 in Cooke Co., Texas, although I've not found her final resting place. George died on May 27th, 1900 at Woodbine, Cooke Co., Texas and was buried at Nelson Grove Cemetery, Oak Ridge, Cooke Co., Texas at the same cemetery where his daughter, Anna Myrtle, had been laid to rest so very long ago.
May they all Rest, Peacefully, in Paradise.
