Obituary.

Mrs. Adah Izira Gates, the beloved wife of Mr. John M. Gates, was born in Marion Co., Ill., Nov. 22, 1867; died at her father's, John M. Morgan, Oct. 20, 1891; aged 23 years, 10 months, and 28 days. She was converted while attending Lewis College, Glasgow, Mo., in the Young People's Prayer Meeting, in 1883, and united with the Methodist Episcopal church, of which she remained a loyal member until her death.

In December 1890, she was united in marriage with Mr. John M. Gates, a union which for ten brief months, was happy in the highest degree.

She was a teacher in the M.E- Sunday School of our city. The attachment between teacher and scholars was mutually strong.

Sister Gates was of a joyous temperament. Her life, though short, was beautiful--a constant benediction in the home.

She leaves a husband and infant daughter, father and mother, sisters and a brother to mourn her loss. Their sorrow is unmeasured, but not unassuaged; for the memory of the beautiful and helpful life of the departed, the tender sympathy of her many friends, and above the "everlasting consolation and good hope through grace" given them, the "oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness."

The funeral services were held in the Methodist Episcopal church, Rev. J.H. Poland, presiding Elder, and the writer officiating. The church was full of appreciative friends.
