He grew up in Lake Park and Maplewood, where he attended school. He also lived and attended school in Detroit Lakes for two years. Jonathan worked numerous cooking jobs, at Arnold's in Minneapolis; and in Detroit Lakes at Grover's, Perkins, and Taco Johns.
Jonathan enjoyed spending time with his family, music, computers, writing, drawing, and cooking.
Jonathan A. Austad died 7 May 2006 in Clear Lake Township, Sherburne County.
Funeral services were held on 12 May 12 at the Community Alliance Church in Detroit Lakes.
Interment was held at Ebenezer Lutheran Church Cemetery near Oklee.
Jonathan is survived by a son, Liam Patrick Austad of Minneapolis; his mother, Kathy Austad of Middle River;
his father, Gary (Darlene) Austad of Detroit Lakes;
a brother, Jamey (Kari) Austad of Scandia; step-sisters, Kristie (John Pierre) Krause of Escondido, Calif; Teri Jo Krause of Remer; step-brother, Mike (Tammy) Kunz of Perham;
maternal grandmother, Mildred Carriere of Middle River;
several step-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents
Ole and Ione Austad; maternal grandfather, James "Snooky" Carriere.
