Name unreadable on stone so staying with this spelling of the last name can also be spelled Defebaugh Dieffabaugh Dieffabaugh Defibaugh and more.Stumpf burying ground is the oldest known cemetery in the township, the first person buried there was Jane Dieffabaugh who died October, 1804, the ground donated by George S. Dunkel.

She and her Mother had come out from Pennsylvania soon after Adam Defenbaugh, a brother of Jane and settled at Laurelville. She got sick and died soon after her arrival. Her brother and Jacob Strouse cut down a herry tree, and sawed out a few boards, with which Samuel Spangler made a rude coffin for the deceased girl.
