Elbert Lee Hilley, 72 years old, of Newberry died March 20, 2004 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital. Mr. Hilley was born in Newberry, a son of the late Robert L. and Alma Horton Hilley. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War having served in the 81st Airborne and he was a retired Sergeant from the S.C. National Guard. Mr. Hilley was survived by his wife, Hazel Farmer Hilley of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Maxine and Vernon Koon and Mona Hilley Taylor, all of Newberry; a brother, James Hilley of Newberry; eight grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sisters and two brothers. Interment was in Newberry Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Whitaker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
